The 7 Steps to Healthy Glowing Skin

The steps to healthy glowing skin lie in how you eat, what you drink and above all a simple yet effective way to exfoliate on a daily basis.

How do I clear up my skin?

With all the products that are out in the market, how do I choose something that is suitable for my skin type, that is natural, that is organic, with nourishing substances that are preferably eco-friendly, and that can absolutely guarantee me some results?

There is a plethora of advice that can be given by beauty practitioners, but just doing one fundamental thing every day over the course of one month (later in the post) will guarantee you substantial results – I promise you. First however, let me explain

This is the type of question you will be asking if you are fed up of trying out a host of products that have promised so much with little effect. Most skin creams and lotions that claim to have natural ingredients are the ones that most of us will be lured to buy.

At a time where the preference is for everything to be herbal, organic, natural, ethically sourced and chemical free, then of course we will gravitate towards those. And in the same way as chemical creams purport to do, we expect the same wonders.

What if beauty creams don’t work?

Typically we tell ourselves that the cream is just not that great quality, it just doesn’t work for a particular skin type, or it just isn’t good for my skin, so I-will-just-have-to-try-another-one type of scenario. And the spiel goes on, endlessly, until one day we wake up to the notion that our skin – the largest organ of our body – is a representation of our wellbeing. It is our whole person, a symbol of our beauty and state of health. Ultimately feeling comfortable in our skin, is the greatest gift we can possess.

So how do we treat skin and get glowing beauty from a holistic perspective?

First, your skin is a reflection of your inner organs.

In other words, it makes no sense to use skin products that have no toxic chemicals, if we are then putting toxins into our bodies through the food we eat. Eating organic vegetables and fruits, drinking fresh ginger root tea, and keeping your digestive system clean of any processed foods is a big part to getting that beautifully glowing skin.

Second, your skin reflects your state of mind.

If you are stressed out and exhausted, the likelihood is that your body will start to manifest this on your skin. This happens so that you can take note of those pimples, eczema rashes or even acne on your face and body. In this way you can honour more time for a bath, rest and meditation. As you provide your body with relaxation, your skin will respond with a healthy glow that speaks of rest and rejuvenation.

Third, detox with herbal teas.

Everyone says to drink more water, and while of course this is an essential element of your diet, I advise to drink every day at least two mugs of warm, cleansing herbal teas. These really detox the body, cleanse and purify your blood and expel from your system any heavy metals and free radicals that you absorbed during your day-to-day activities in polluted cities. According to ancient Asian wisdom drinking cold water – or any cold beverage – creates a block in the stomach, while warm tea dissolves and releases anything that is not required by the body. So that goes for alcohol too – in women it very often expresses itself as dehydrated, dull skin.

And lastly – glowing skin is not about using 10 different products, each doing their own part – morning and night – to ensure those blotchy patches and wrinkles go away after the 30 days (as promised by the studies advertised on the packaging). No it is far simpler than that.

It is about taking a flannel, a delicate cotton muslin cloth and naturally exfoliating dead cells every evening using completely natural soap. (I love Coquille de La Vie which we stock at The Energy Space but a natural olive oil soap also works). The steps are so simple:

1 – take off any eye make-up with any product of your choice

2 – splash some warm water on your face

3 – lather some natural soap onto your face

4 – wash off the soap with your flannel or muslin cloth

5 – pat dry gently

6 – rub in a few drops of natural organic oil

7 – follow with a natural moisturiser

So that is the secret to beautiful glowing skin: exfoliate naturally with a flannel, just like in the olden days. Are you ready to undertake the challenge? Try doing this for 30 or – even better – 90 days to see the massive difference. And have people notice your glowing skin? We say Yes!
